Decision by Swedish Society of Kenya left Teule children with a smile
Teule Kenya is an organization that help home-less and abused children in Kenya. They operates a shelter/rescue centre in Oloitokitok. The home is a haven to 60 children. In this home, all the needs of the children are met. This include;food, clothing shelter and medical care. They are provided with a 24 hour care by the staffs who Teule work diligently to provide emotional and psychosocial support for these children. To sustain the centre, Teule-Kenya runs among others, a formal primary school (Kibo Slopes Academy) in Oloitokitok. Currently, the school have 95 children35 students from the local surrounding community. The school has a potential enrollment capacity of over 300 students. The school’s ten (10) class rooms (each 20 ft. x 20 ft.) are dirt floors. This has been a huge challege to the kids, who attend school bare-footed. In rainy season like now, they fight with mud on the way to school, and sit in un-favourable environment untill end of their classes at 4pm. This put their health at great risk! The Swedish Society of Kenya saved this desperate situation by donating KES 135,000 to Sports for Change through project guarantor Gunnar Kraft. This means, the children will in the next few months, study in a conducive environment and remain healthy in their academic setting. The school will also be in a better position to recruit more children from the community thus more income to the centre. The Swedish Society of Kenya is an organization of Swedish citizens living in Kenya. The society arranges a number of activities every yea, including a Christmas bazaar in December, mainly to stimulate network among Swedes and support charity projects in Kenya. |
